Standalone) versions for about $160 including the “dongle”, and that is a complete bargain. You can get the Student Bundle with both Max and Maya (incl. No watermarks, no size limits, you even get 10 rendernode licenses to use on your network. No restrictions other than “no commercial” work to be produced. If you attend ANY kind of schooling I would try to get an educational discount, Chaosgroup is really nice to people, and you don’t have to be a 3D student to get a discount, any student will usually do! And the discount is MASSIVE. This is the cheapest I’ve found, some charge up to $499 plus dongle, so sadly it is a bit expensive for many users out there. When it comes to purchasing Vray for Blender, you can get the Standalone for $350 here: Vray can be used as both a biased and unbiased renderer and does a great job for both. Now that it seems as if Cycles will be the only renderer to get any serious development in Blender in the future, it leaves a hole that can be filled for those that want a biased renderer in addition to the unbiased Cycles solution. I also agree to that putting Vray/Blender into the official SVN would lead to a potentially massive upswing in the number of users considering switching to the amazing Vray renderer.
